About Seattle

You can't go to Paris without stopping by the Eiffel Tower. And you can't visit Seattle without checking out the view from the world-famous Space Needle. A 41-second elevator ride takes you up 520 feet to the observation deck of the Space Needle, built for the 1962 World's Fair. Enjoy a meal at SkyCity, the restaurant at the top that revolves 360° while you dine.

Seattle's downtown area is like a blender - combining everything that makes the city work. Boutique shops and flagship department stores mix it up with government and finance offices. Buildings erected during the Gold Rush mingle with 21st century architecture. The tallest skyscraper in the Northwest (the 76-story Bank of America tower) rises out of downtown Seattle, as does a parking structure that looks like a sinking ship.

Spring, early summer and fall are ideal times to visit Seattle. From late March to mid June and from mid September through mid November days are usually warm but not too hot, and evenings are pleasant. Many festivals are held during this time period. In the spring, the landscape is decorated with colorful wildflowers. Spring thunderstorms and floods can be severe, but acres of lush greenery are produced as a result. Summers are a popular time to visit, but the days are often intensely hot. The morning air in the Fall is crisp and cool, and most days are sunny.
